Kestrels Class children who did not pass the phonics screening check in Year 1 are streamed with year 1 to have separate phonics SFA Phonics resources and lesson plans. This is in order to target specific areas with each child.

Children who passed the phonics screening check have daily Spelling with the FFT Success for All Jungle Club. This is a brand-new, online platform that provides teachers with fun and engaging daily spelling lessons for the children to complete.

Children also have a daily reading lesson called Routes to Reading from the FFT Success for All SSP. Building on from early reading and phonics, Routes to Reading used with Kestrels Class to secure reading skills from the Year 2 National Curriculum.
